Tom Barrett is an Omaha attorney, small business owner, and lifelong community member who is committed to public service, transparency, and efficient government. He graduated from Creighton Prep, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and Creighton University School of Law. Tom and his wife, Sally Nellson, have three daughters, and their family has deep roots in the Omaha community. Sally, with funding from the Sherwood Foundation, helped start Nebraska Loves Public Schools and served as its Executive Director for 11 years, working to highlight and support public education across Nebraska.
With years of courtroom experience and a career in both public service and private practice, Tom understands how the court system works and how important accurate records and professional service are to the public. He is running for Douglas County Court Clerk to ensure the office is responsive, accountable, and serves the people of Douglas County with integrity.
The Douglas County Court Clerk is responsible for maintaining official court records, managing filings and case information, collecting fees and fines, and helping the public access court information and services. The Clerk’s office processes legal documents, maintains accurate case records, administers oaths, and ensures court orders and judgments are properly recorded and preserved. In short, the Clerk’s office is the administrative backbone of the court system, ensuring that court operations run accurately, efficiently, and transparently for the public.



Tom Barrett is a strong fit for County Court Clerk because of his legal background, courtroom experience, and commitment to transparency and public accountability. As an attorney and former Deputy County Attorney, he has firsthand experience working within the court system and understands the importance of accurate records, clear procedures, and public access to information. Tom believes the Clerk’s office should serve the public with professionalism, efficiency, and openness, and he brings the legal knowledge and administrative mindset necessary to manage the office responsibly.
Early voting for the Douglas County Primary Election begins April 13, 2026 at the Douglas County Election Commission. Voters may also request a ballot by mail beginning January 12, 2026. Election Day is May 12, 2026.
